2005 to 2009 - Film Independent, Century City, CA, Marketing Department

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

  • In charge of corporate identity, advertising, public relations, marketing sponsorships and promotions for the film organization’s three primary properties: Independent Spirit Awards, Los Angeles Film Festival, and Film Independent.
  • Obtained the highest viewership ever achieved for the Independent Spirit Awards televised broadcast via WE, AMC and IFC networks, including distribution into 65 international countries.
  • Secured almost one million dollars in public relations coverage for the Independent Spirit Awards through global broadcast, print and online news.
  • Directed the largest sponsored media campaign Film Independent has ever had, to promote the 2006 Los Angeles Film Festival in partnership with the Los Angeles Times and Festival Guest Director, George Lucas.
  • Managed marketing relationships with mainstream sponsors including INTEL, Target, In Style, Pop Secret, Adobe, Axium, Kodak and more.
  • In charge of managing external agency relationships including two public relations firms, two advertising agencies, a chief creative consultant, and in-house communications team.
  • In 2007 I took a hiatus to do research work on a feature-length documentary.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

  • Managed design, editorial content, and educational submissions for the monthly membership publication, FIND magazine.
  • Developed a monthly e-Magazine for the film community, which offers reader-spreads, hyper-links, video, and page-turn capabilities.
  • Managed almost 800 marketing jobs, including partner organization outreach, and in-kind sponsorship fulfillment.

 

2004 to 2005 -The Living Desert Zoo & Gardens, Palm Desert, CA, Marketing Department

DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

  • In charge of advertising, public relations, special events, tradeshows, sponsorships and promotions, shuttle service and group sales.
  • Achieved a 32% increase in Spring break attendance, the highest numbers in the zoo’s history, with the development and marketing of new events.
  • Achieved a 54% increase in day attendance with the development of the Health, Fitness and Safety Fair and a 9% increase in day attendance with the launch of a holiday animal enrichment program.
  • Secured over $100,000 in media sponsorships and promotions to underwrite the annual Howl-o-ween and WildLights holiday festivals.
  • Developed new revenue sources with the launch of Behind-The-Scenes tours, online ticket sales, a cell phone-recycling program, plus developed a themed photo booth and food service revenue share programs.
  • Repackaged existing exhibits and launched an integrated advertising campaign, achieving a noticeable rise in awareness.
  • Expanded the press database and launched a nationwide PR campaign to publicize a live car auction fundraiser. The auction was a success. The rare Ford GT sold for $255,000, an incredible $105,000 over sticker.

 

1996 to 2003 - Oregon Coast Aquarium, Newport, OR, Marketing Department

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, MARKETING

  • In charge of corporate identity, advertising, public relations, trade shows, events and promotions, including retail sales for three stores, group sales and facility rental business.
  • Achieved the highest Memorial Day weekend attendance in the Aquarium’s history with the marketing launch of Great White Mystery in Passages of the Deep, a 200 ft. suspended acrylic tunnel through three ocean habitats.
  • Successfully opened two new retail stores increasing revenue for the Aquarium, while achieving one of the highest averages per caps in the zoo/aquarium industry.
  • Raised over one million dollars through corporate partnerships, co-op, in-kind and sponsorships to successfully underwrite costs for marketing new exhibits and events.

DIRECTOR, MARKETING

  • Launched a cohesive marketing campaign for the Keiko exhibit, killer whale star of Free Willy, achieving the highest attendance the Aquarium has ever had with over 1.3 million visitors.
  • Directed over 450 domestic and international press corps through Keiko’s move to Iceland, while maintaining positive press for the Aquarium valued over $1.5 million. Won two national press awards.
  • Developed a state-of-the-art, award-winning website including live web cams, virtual 360 tours, trip planner, audio/video of exhibits, downloadable educational aids, press kit and digital photo dump, including generating online revenue from ticket sales, retail sales, membership sales, animal sponsorship sales and event sales.
  • Supervised an external advertising agency, public relations firm, corporate identity designer, in-house creative and support staff.

 

1995 JanSport, Inc., Appleton, WI, Marketing Communications Department

  • Responsible for direction of advertising, public relations, promotions, collateral, and trade shows, point of purchase and packaging.
